The Azerbaijani Army is conducting the Commando Initial Course in one of the military units that continues under the training plan for 2024.
During the classes, servicemen strengthen their theoretical knowledge by fulfilling practical tasks on the training ground, Caliber.Az reports citing the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry.
According to the plan, the course participants fulfilled tasks on detecting and destroying targets of an imaginary enemy with accurate small-arms fire.
Classes at the Commando Initial Course aimed at training professional personnel in the Azerbaijan Army and further increasing units’ combat capability are held taking into account modern combat methods.
During and after the 44-day war with Armenia in 2020, President Ilham Aliyev revealed Azerbaijan’s intention to strengthen the national army based on the Turkish model but on a smaller scale. Following the war, as part of the army’s upgrade in line with the Turkish military expertise, all-new Commando units were created in areas with difficult terrain.
In 2021, 2022, and 2023, President Aliyev inaugurated new units of Commando forces, the personnel of which have been through weeks-long “Commando preparation” courses in Türkiye under the direct involvement and guidance of Turkish military specialists.
