Azerbaijani carpet weaving arouses great interest in South Korea
Director of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, Doctor of Philosophy in Art History, Honoured Worker of Culture Shirin Melikova has taken part in an international conference held in South Korean Daegu city.
Melikova represented Azerbaijan at the conference entitled "Carpet Weaving: History and Beauty of the Silk Road" organised by Keimyung University, the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum told Trend.
She made a report on "Carpet weaving in Azerbaijan: a view from the centuries" at this international event. Some 20 researchers from the US, Italy, South Korea, Australia, Pakistan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan attended the event.
Melikova spoke about the history of the creation and development of the art of carpet weaving in Azerbaijan, its ancient traditions that are available today, as well as the unique features of carpets woven by using different techniques, carpet ornaments and their symbols.
She emphasised that weavers from all Azerbaijani districts have been creating luxurious carpets for centuries, some of which are kept in the biggest museums in the world, showcased at prestigious exhibitions, and that these pieces of art reflect the original worldview and taste of society.
The director of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum noted that the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum was established to protect, popularise and develop carpet art in Azerbaijan, described its rich, multifaceted activity, the projects implemented by the museum, and also noted the great attention and care paid at the state level to this sphere.
Melikova donated books of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum to the Keimyung University Library.
