Azerbaijani citizen sentenced to 15 years for high treason, anti-state activities
The Baku Court on Grave Crimes has sentenced Azerbaijani citizen Emin Gasimzade to 15 years in prison on charges of high treason and other anti-state activities.
The verdict was delivered by Judge Telman Huseynov following the conclusion of the high-profile trial, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Gasimzade was found guilty under several articles of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code, including Article 274 (High Treason), Article 281.2 (Public calls against the state), and Article 283.1 (Acts aimed at inciting national hatred and hostility).
According to the investigation, Gasimzade transmitted sensitive information to Armenian contacts, including photos and data from Shusha and other areas, in a move deemed harmful to Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and state security.
He was also accused of making open anti-state statements on his Facebook account and carrying out actions intended to incite national hatred and enmity within the country. The charges state that his activities were coordinated through social media platforms and aligned with interests hostile to the Azerbaijani state.
The case was investigated by the State Security Service of Azerbaijan, which concluded that Gasimzade’s actions posed a serious threat to national security.
