Azerbaijani, Czech FMs hold regular political consultations

31 March 2023 17:30

The regular political consultations between the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry and the Foreign Ministry of the Czech Republic have been held in Baku on March 31.

From the Azerbaijani side, the delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov while from the Czech side – by General Director for European Affairs of the Foreign Ministry of the Czech Republic Jaroslav Kurfurst, Caliber.Az reports citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

The current state and prospects of bilateral and multilateral relations between the countries, including political, economic, trade, and humanitarian issues, as well as cooperation within international organisations, were discussed during the political consultations.

In turn, Khalafov noted that 30 years have passed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Effective cooperation has been brought to the strategic partnership level over the years. High-level political dialogue, exchange of official visits, as well as inter-parliamentary cooperation, play an important role in this process.

He informed about the transport and communication projects being implemented in the region on Azerbaijan’s initiative, and involvement and noted the wide opportunities for cooperation in these spheres.

Khalafov informed the other side about the new realities in the region in the post-conflict period, and the ongoing restoration and construction processes in the Azerbaijani territories liberated from occupation.

While informing the other side about Azerbaijan's initiatives to normalise relations with Armenia, promote the peace agenda, delimit the state border, and open communications, he also noted that the provocations committed by Armenia, in particular, non-fulfillment of the obligations arising from the tripartite statement, pose a threat to peace and tranquility in the region.

Kurfurst expressed gratification with the current level of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic and noted that proceeding from the corresponding joint statement signed in 2015, relations have reached the strategic partnership level.

He noted that the Czech Republic constantly supports Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and emphasises the importance of establishing lasting peace and stability in the region.

He noted that a productive meeting of the Azerbaijan-Czech intergovernmental commission was held in Prague on March 3, 2023, which contributed to the development of economic cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on other issues of regional and international security of mutual interest.
