Azerbaijani delegation heads to Uzbekistan to observe parliamentary elections

26 October 2024 16:56

A delegation led by Mazahir Panahov, Chairman of Azerbaijan's Central Election Commission, has left for Uzbekistan at the invitation of his Uzbek counterpart Zayniddin Nizamkhodjaev.

The primary purpose of the trip is to observe the elections for the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of Uzbekistan, scheduled for October 27, Caliber.Az reports.

During the visit, representatives from the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission will monitor polling stations in the capital city, Tashkent, as well as in various regions across the country on election day.

The delegation includes Ahliman Amiraslanov, Chairman of Parliament’s Health Committee, Aghalar Valiyev representing the TurkPA, Sabina Salmanova from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, and Gaya Mammadov and Azay Guliyev from the OSCE PA.

The Azerbaijani officials will assess the level of preparedness for the elections to the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan's Oliy Majlis, review conditions at several polling stations, and monitor voter turnout as well as the vote counting process on election day.

The delegation's visit to Uzbekistan is scheduled to conclude on October 29.

The elections will be assessed against democratic commitments contained in the OSCE’s 1990 Copenhagen Document. The preliminary findings and conclusions for the elections will be presented at a press conference in Tashkent on October 28.
