Azerbaijani delegation strengthens bilateral, multilateral cooperation during visit to Mexico PHOTO
A high-level Azerbaijani delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev visited the United Mexican States on May 23 to enhance bilateral relations and deepen multilateral cooperation across key global platforms.
The delegation held several high-profile meetings, including talks with Enrique Javier Ochoa Martínez, Mexico’s Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights; Camila Zepeda, Mexico’s Chief Climate and Biodiversity Negotiator; and senior experts at the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations (COMEXI), a prominent think tank, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
In discussions with Enrique Ochoa Martínez, both sides expressed satisfaction with the robust collaboration between Azerbaijan and Mexico within international organisations. Rafiyev briefed his counterpart on Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities and ongoing efforts to normalise relations with Armenia.
He also outlined upcoming initiatives to be led by Azerbaijan as part of its leadership on various multilateral platforms. Climate diplomacy was another key focus of the visit. During talks with Camila Zepeda, the Mexican side praised Azerbaijan’s progress during COP29.
At COMEXI, discussions centered around Azerbaijan’s multi-vector foreign policy, its evolving role in the South Caucasus following the 44-day second Karabakh war in 2020, and the country’s increasing engagement within international organisations. Participants commended Azerbaijan’s COP29 presidency and the concrete achievements realized in that context.
