Azerbaijani delegation to Eurovision clarifies incident during contest
Azerbaijan has been willing to give 12 points to Ukraine, although we have been urged to give those votes to UK.
“A corresponding letter was immediately sent to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) on the final day. In the letter, Azerbaijan demanded to explain the reason of not taking into account of Azerbaijan's vote by the jury,” Head of the Azerbaijani delegation at Eurovision Song Contest 2022 Isa Malikov told reporters, APA reports.
“During the final day, we saw that our vote was not taken into account, and we appealed to the contest organizers. We have also sent another letter of protest to the EBU today. Probably, the official answer will be received in two days,” Malikov said.
Malikov also touched upon Azerbaijan's further steps.
“I think that Azerbaijan's further decision will depend on the answer both in terms of participation in the coming years and in general in terms of assessing this event,” head of the Azerbaijani delegation added.
Malikov said that the issue of excluding Azerbaijan and five other countries from the contest by the jury is not official.
“The quoted websites are the EBU and websites close to it. The EBU has not made a general statement on this issue and has not disclosed the countries excluded by the jury,” head of the Azerbaijani delegation said.
The votes of the jury of Azerbaijan and several other countries were not taken into account on the final day of the Eurovision Song Contest on May 14.
