Human remains unearthed in Azerbaijan’s Quba district after landslide
Human remains have been uncovered in Rustov village of Quba district in northern Azerbaijan following a minor landslide triggered by recent heavy rainfall.
A human skull and pelvic bones were exposed on the roadside, not far from the village mosque. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the origin and historical context of the remains, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The discovery has revived memories of a major finding in 2007, when construction work at Quba city stadium revealed a mass grave. Subsequent research by experts from the Archaeology and Ethnography Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan concluded that the remains belonged to local civilians massacred by Armenian armed groups during the genocide of 1918.
To preserve the memory of the victims, Azerbaijan inaugurated the Quba Genocide Memorial Complex in 2013.
