Four treated after Iranian drone strike hits Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan
Following an Iranian drone attack on Nakhchivan, four people sought medical care at facilities in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan, Sahib Abuzarov, head of the emergency department at Nakhchivan Hospital, said.
He noted that all patients received primary medical care and are in stable condition, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“Two have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries, and the other two with blunt back trauma. They are currently in the appropriate hospital wards, and treatment is ongoing,” he added.
On March 5, 2026, around midday, drones launched from Iranian territory struck civilian sites in Nakhchivan. One UAV hit the terminal at Nakhchivan International Airport, while another crashed near a school in Shakarabad village, damaging property and injuring four civilians.
The Azerbaijani government condemned the attacks as violations of international law and norms, warning that such actions increase regional instability. Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilu, was summoned to the Foreign Ministry, and a formal diplomatic protest was delivered.
The Defence Ministry of Azerbaijan stated that the attacks “will not go unanswered” and confirmed preparations to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and civilian infrastructure. Officials stressed that the strikes, targeting civilian facilities without military justification, are Iran’s responsibility and are under thorough investigation, including analysis of the UAVs used.
