Azerbaijan’s airspace has become a key transit corridor linking Europe and Asia following the closure of Iran’s airspace, with hundreds of flights passing over the country each day.
Rauf Aghamirzoyev, a transport expert and member of the Public Council under Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, told Caliber.Az that the narrow air corridor over Azerbaijan has become one of the most important aviation routes for the Middle East region, serving as an essential connection between Europe and Asia.
According to Aghamirzoyev, transit air traffic through Azerbaijan has increased significantly in recent years. Since 2021, the volume of transit air transportation across the country’s airspace has grown by 260%.

“The total number of transit flights in Azerbaijan’s airspace per month reaches up to 18,000, while around 1,000 aircraft are handled in the country’s airspace every day,” he said.
Aghamirzoyev added that between February 28 and March 10, Azerbaijan’s airspace recorded as many as 815 transit flights per day.
