Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Elnur Mammadov, has attended the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

During the session, Mamadov joined the election of UNESCO’s new Director-General. Egypt’s candidate, Khaled Al Anani, was elected by a majority vote to assume the role of Director-General, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.

During his visit, the deputy minister held meetings with the newly elected chair of the General Conference, Khondker M. Talha, and the President of the Executive Board of UNESCO, Vera Lacoeuilhe.

The discussions focused on Azerbaijan’s proactive role within UNESCO’s governance structures, the country’s significant contributions to the organization’s initiatives, and the prospects for expanding future cooperation.
