Azerbaijani doctors provide latest insights on Aktau crash victims' recovery
Eight survivors of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane crash near Aktau, Kazakhstan, are currently receiving treatment at the Yeni Klinika medical center, according to Azerbaijani Medical Territorial Units Management Union (TƏBİB).
The group includes three men and five women who remain under the care of specialized medical teams, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Each patient has undergone comprehensive diagnostic and instrumental evaluations by experts, including traumatologists, neurosurgeons, and infectious disease specialists.
TƏBİB stated that one patient admitted on December 30, 2024, is in medium-heavy but stable condition. Two others, who arrived in traumatic comas, remain in critical but stable condition. Both patients suffer from craniocerebral trauma, multiple fractures, blunt chest injuries, and haemopneumothorax. They are being closely monitored in the intensive care unit, where treatment continues according to established protocols.
Five additional patients, previously hospitalized, are also receiving inpatient care at the facility. Their conditions are reported as satisfactory. Meanwhile, patients discharged for outpatient treatment are being monitored by medical professionals and psychologists.
Details of the crash
On December 25, 2024, Azerbaijan Airlines flight J2-8243, an Embraer E190, crashed near Aktau while en route from Baku to Grozny, Russia. The plane carried 67 people, including 62 passengers and five crew members. The tragic accident claimed 38 lives, leaving 29 survivors.
Passengers included nationals from Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash while medical teams work to stabilize and support the survivors through their recovery process.
