Azerbaijani energy minister highlights prosperity boost from new Iğdır-Nakhchivan Pipeline
Azerbaijani Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov has said that the Iğdır-Nakhchivan gas pipeline will not only allow for the diversification of gas supplies to the Nakhchivan enclave but also contribute to improving the well-being of the population residing in both regions.
Shahbazov delivered this point while attending the inauguration ceremony for the pipeline on March 5, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
According to the minister, the project will play a crucial role in the region’s further development.
"The pipeline's maximum capacity is 730 million cubic meters, but future upgrades and expansion are possible. Additionally, the pipeline allows for reverse gas flow, adding even greater strategic significance to the project," he stated.
Shahbazov also expressed his gratitude to the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Türkiye, Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, for making this project a reality. Both presidents attended the inauguration from the Turkish capital through video conference while Minister Shahbazov led the ceremony in the Turkish city of Iğdır together with his Turkish counterpart Alparslan Bayraktar.
As Caliber.Az recalls, the 85-kilometer pipeline, which will allow Nakhchivan to cover all of it's annual natural gas demand by Turkish gas is the latest additional in the two countries energy projects. Türkiye and Azerbaijan already had two existing pipelines, namely the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline Project (TANAP) that carries natural gas.
