Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Iran, Ali Alizade, held a meeting with the head of the Iran-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group, Sodeif Badri, to discuss bilateral relations and prospects for further cooperation.

The meeting also included members of the parliamentary group. Discussions focused on strengthening mutually beneficial collaboration between the two countries through parliamentary diplomacy, Caliber.Az reports citing the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran.

"Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Iran, A. Alizada, held meetings with the head of the Iran-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group, Sodeif Badri, and group members. The discussions included an exchange of views on bilateral relations and further strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation between the friendship groups," the statement reads.

This meeting comes amid ongoing efforts to bolster diplomatic and economic relations between Baku and Tehran. The Azerbaijan-Iran Interparliamentary Friendship Group plays a crucial role in facilitating dialogue and cooperation between the legislative bodies of both countries.

Azerbaijan and Iran share deep-rooted historical, cultural, and economic ties, shaped by centuries of interaction and geographical proximity. Despite periods of political tensions, both nations have consistently pursued diplomatic engagement to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields, including trade, energy, transportation, and regional security.

In recent years, parliamentary diplomacy has played an increasingly significant role in fostering dialogue between Baku and Tehran. The Iran-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group has served as a key channel for discussions on legislative collaboration and policy coordination. High-level visits and meetings between lawmakers have helped maintain open communication and address issues of mutual interest.

The 15th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), held in Baku on February 17-21, provided a platform for further strengthening interparliamentary ties between Azerbaijan and Iran. The participation of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf underscored Tehran’s commitment to deepening regional collaboration and engaging with Azerbaijan on multilateral initiatives.

During his visit, Ghalibaf reiterated Iran’s readiness to enhance cooperation with Baku in political, economic, social, and cultural spheres. His meetings with Azerbaijani officials reflected both countries’ shared interest in leveraging parliamentary diplomacy to address regional challenges and foster stability.
