01 August 2024 10:46

Elchin Amirbayov, Special Representative of the Azerbaijani President, conducted a series of meetings with key American officials during his recent visit to the USA, focusing on the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the enhancement of Baku-Washington relations.

Amirbayov's visit included significant discussions with several high-profile figures, Caliber.Az reports, citing messages posted by the Azerbaijani Embassy in the USA and the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the UN.

Amirbayov met with Michael Carpenter, Special Assistant to the US President and Senior Director for Europe at the National Security Council (NSC), who emphasized the importance of the dialogue. “Constructive and useful discussions were held covering the bilateral agenda between Azerbaijan and the USA, the current state of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and recent developments in the region,” the embassy’s press service reported.

In addition, Amirbayov engaged with James O’Brien, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Yuri Kim, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs, Brian Stimmler, Director of the Office of Central Asian Affairs, Laura Cooper, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, and Senator Pete Ricketts from Nebraska. The discussions addressed critical issues impacting the bilateral relationship and regional stability.

The diplomat also participated in a round table organized by the US Institute of Peace, where he met with representatives from prominent think tanks. The discussions at this event covered “Azerbaijan-US relations, the current status and prospects of the ongoing Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process, and regional and international security issues,” as noted by the embassy.

In New York, Amirbayov held a meeting with Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs. DiCarlo highlighted the significance of the talks, stating, “We discussed the current state and future prospects of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, along with the latest developments in the region.”
