Azerbaijani expert highlights positive shift in Armenian officials’ rhetoric
Armenia is showing a clear interest in fostering regional cooperation and creating multilateral platforms, according to Deputy Director of the Topchubashov Centre Murad Muradov, who is currently in Yerevan to participate in the 108th Rose-Roth Seminar of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
Speaking to local media, Muradov described his impressions of the trip as positive, noting that he had not encountered any negative situations during his visit. “I am glad that I am participating in such an event for the first time. The Armenian media showed great interest in my visit – I even had to give detailed comments to journalists. So far, I have not felt any negative attitude towards myself,” he said.
Muradov also drew attention to a noticeable shift in the rhetoric of Armenian officials. “For example, Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ruben Rubinyan, and Defence Minister Suren Papikyan have stated that they are satisfied with the content of the Washington agreement. According to them, the document reflects the principles of respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity and opens up new opportunities for the region. Armenian representatives highly appreciate the role of the United States and, in particular, President Donald Trump,” he explained.
He added that Armenia is also anticipating US investment in road construction.
“Other messages concerned adaptation to NATO standards and movement towards the creation of a professional army. This means that they no longer have the previous intention to continue the conflict with Azerbaijan. On the contrary, they are interested in bringing regional countries closer together and creating joint platforms. They highly appreciate such trips and welcome their organisation at various levels,” Muradov emphasised.
