Azerbaijani FM briefs Romania, Portugal on Iran-linked drone strike on Nakhchivan
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister held separate phone talks with his Romanian and Portuguese counterparts to discuss growing regional security risks linked to tensions in the Middle East, including a recent drone attack launched from Iranian territory against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
In a talk with Romania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana-Silvia Țoiu, FM Bayramov discussed the evolving regional security environment, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
The sides reviewed the current situation in the region, with particular attention to risks arising from escalated tensions in the Middle East.
During the call, Bayramov briefed his Romanian counterpart on a drone attack launched from Iranian territory targeting the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. He said the strikes caused damage to civilian infrastructure and left several civilians injured.
Țoiu expressed concern over the incident and condemned the attack by Iran, emphasizing that such actions pose a serious threat to regional stability and security.
The ministers also discussed issues related to the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Romania, including cooperation in energy security, transport projects, and other areas of bilateral and multilateral collaboration of mutual interest.

In a separate phone conversation the same day, FM Bayramov also spoke with Portugal’s Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Paulo Rangel.
The top diplomats exchanged views on regional and international security issues. They also examined the risks emerging amid the war in the Middle East.
In this context, the ministers condemned the drone attack launched from Iranian territory against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, noting that such actions are unacceptable.
During the call, the sides discussed the current state of and prospects for bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Portugal, including political dialogue and economic cooperation.
Concluding their conversation, Bayramov and Rangel underscored the importance of maintaining regular bilateral contacts.
