Azerbaijani FM confirms President Aliyev will not attend May summit in Armenia
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has confirmed that President Ilham Aliyev is not scheduled to attend the European Political Community summit in Armenia this May.
Speaking to journalists at the “Mother’s Cry” memorial on the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide, Bayramov said participation in the summit is limited to heads of state, in line with the event’s original concept, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“To my knowledge, President Aliyev’s visit to Armenia in May is not planned,” he stated.
Bayramov also highlighted Azerbaijan’s ongoing efforts to advance peace in the South Caucasus, emphasising the country’s progress under President Aliyev’s leadership.
“Under the guidance of President Aliyev, the Azerbaijani people and army have taken decisive steps to liberate our territories,” he said. “It is clear that in the peace process with Armenia, all initiatives have come from Azerbaijan. We are taking serious steps, and the results are already visible.”
The Foreign Minister stressed the importance of preserving historical memory and ensuring the tragedy of the past is never forgotten. “We cannot forget our history. Today’s anniversary carries great significance for our people, who continue to honour the memory of the victims of this tragedy,” Bayramov said.
