Azerbaijani FM reveals reason for aggravation of situation in Karabakh
“The last tension arose in the Karabakh region a few days ago. After the end of the Patriotic War and the signing of the tripartite statement, we witnessed the aggravation of the situation several times.
The reason for all these events is the failure of Armenia to fulfil its obligations.”
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said this in an interview with Turkish media, Report informs citing TRT Haber.
“By default, we specifically mean the withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the Karabakh region. Because Armenia has such an obligation under the tripartite statement. When the peacekeeping forces entered the region, the illegal Armenian armed formations had to leave these lands. However, they still remain there. On August 3, these formations carried out another provocation, as a result of which a soldier of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces was killed. In response to this, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces launched "Revenge" Operation on the same day. Crushing blows were dealt to the enemy in the Karabakh region.
The operation was stopped in the evening as a result of numerous appeals and calls of mediators,” the Foreign Minister emphasised.
According to him, Azerbaijan demands an end to provocations by Armenia: “Armenia must fully fulfil its obligations, and similar situations should not be allowed in the future. Azerbaijan's position is obvious. The territorial integrity of Azerbaijan will be fully restored. There is no place for illegal Armenian armed formations in the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan, and this requirement remains in force. This has been discussed many times. We believe that the Armenian side needs to take the issue very seriously.”
