Azerbaijani FM, UN refugee rep mull cooperation
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received Bik Lum, the representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Azerbaijan, on July 31.
The meeting involved discussions on enhancing cooperation with the UN High Commissioner for refugees and addressing the current regional situation, Caliber.Az reports via the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
Jeyhun Bayramov underscored the importance of joint projects with the UN to mitigate the humanitarian consequences of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, focusing on improving living conditions for Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) resulting from Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan. He highlighted the Great Return program, which aims to ensure the dignified return of Azerbaijanis to territories liberated from occupation, and discussed the progress made in this area.
Bik Lum acknowledged the numerous projects implemented over the past 30 years to support Azerbaijani IDPs and expressed the UN High Commissioner’s readiness to assist in their return to their native lands. Lum also proposed conducting educational work in humanitarian demining in collaboration with the Azerbaijani National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA).
