On December 2, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and newly appointed Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili discussed the current friendly relations during a phone talk.

Bayramov congratulated his colleague on her appointment and wished her success in her new role, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.

The two sides also discussed the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia, as well as plans and prospects for further developing these ties. The sides noted that the existing political dialogue at the highest and senior levels, intensive visits, and the political consultation mechanism contribute to strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The foreign ministers exchanged views on regional issues and cooperation within international organisations.

Bayramov and former Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili also had a phone talk on the same day.

During the phone talk, Bayramov expressed gratitude to Ilia Darchiashvili for his efforts in strengthening the mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia, as well as for expanding the partnership of the two countries on the international stage. Bayramov wished Darchiashvili continued success in his future endeavors. Azerbaijan and Georgia share historically rooted friendly and neighbourly relations, and their strategic partnership spans political, economic, humanitarian, and other spheres.

Moreover, the consular consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Georgia were held in Tbilisi on December 2.

The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Emil Safarov, head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, while the Georgian delegation was headed by Giorgi Tabatadze, Director of the Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry of Georgia.

The event also saw the participation of Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Georgia, Faig Guliyev, as well as representatives from both countries' foreign ministries, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Justice, the State Migration Service, Georgia’s Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

During the consultations, the sides exchanged views on the current and future prospects for cooperation in the consular sphere, as well as the signing of relevant documents.

Discussions were held on protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens, providing consular assistance, and addressing challenges that both countries face in these areas. Furthermore, cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia in justice, migration, education, and social protection was also explored. At the conclusion of the talks, the heads of the delegations signed a protocol formalising the discussions.
