Azerbaijani, Georgian FMs discuss Iran drone attacks on Nakhchivan
Azerbaijani Foreign minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Botchorishvil held a phone conversation on March 5 to discuss the drone attacks by Iran on Azerbaijani territory.
Minister Bayramov briefed Botchorishvili on the incident, in which drones targeted the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on March 5. The attacks caused damage to the terminal building of Nakhchivan Airport and injured civilians. Additionally, one drone landed near a school in the village of Shakirabad, Caliber.Az reports via the Foreign Ministry.
Bayramov emphasised that the drone strikes violate international law and escalate regional tensions. He added that Azerbaijan has formally requested that Iran provide clarification on the incident, offer an official explanation, and take urgent measures to prevent similar events in the future.
Expressing concern over the incident, Minister Botchorishvili highlighted the importance of maintaining stability and security in the region.
The ministers also discussed other matters of mutual interest during their conversation.
