03 February 2023 16:00

On February 3, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó who is on a visit to Azerbaijan to take part in a meeting within the framework of the Southern Gas Corridor Council.

The sides discussed issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Hungary, including the current regional situation, Caliber.Az reports.

Jeyhun Bayramov hailed close ties between Azerbaijan and Hungary in political, economic, trade, energy, educational, humanitarian, and other areas. He noted with satisfaction the upward development of bilateral cooperation. Highlighting the development of cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy security, including in the field of alternative energy, Jeyhun Bayramov said that the "Agreement on strategic partnership in the development and transmission of green energy between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary" signed on  December 17, 2022, which provides for the use of renewable energy potential in the Caspian and Black Sea region and the diversification of energy supplies, has contributed greatly to cooperation in this field.

Jeyhun Bayramov briefed Peter Szijjártó on the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the steps taken by Azerbaijan to promote the peace agenda, the Armenian military, and political provocations that are damaging to the process. Referring to the Armenian provocations that resulted in a peaceful protest by representatives of the Azerbaijani civil society, Jeyhun Bayramov said that the false claims by the Armenian side regarding the events surrounding the Lachin road were aimed at misleading the international community. The minister also informed about the rehabilitation and reconstruction works carried out by Azerbaijan in the region.

Péter Szijjártó noted that Hungary is interested in further developing relations of a strategic nature with Azerbaijan and emphasized the importance of using the existing potential. The importance of the existing legal-treaty framework between the two countries, in particular, the joint declaration on strategic partnership was also noted. Peter Szijjártó expressed satisfaction with the work done within the framework of the bilateral economic commission. Touching upon Azerbaijan's role in Europe's energy security, Peter Szijjártó stressed the contribution of joint projects implemented in this direction to the development of cooperation. He also noted the prospects of involving Hungarian companies in the rehabilitation and reconstruction works in Azerbaijan.
