06 May 2025 11:20

The Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) and the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) under Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at deepening academic and diplomatic collaboration between Azerbaijan and Iran.

The memorandum was formalised during an event held at the AIR Center on the theme “Azerbaijani-Iranian Relations in the Context of Regional Processes.” The agreement outlines plans for academic exchanges and joint projects that will be implemented on the basis of mutually beneficial cooperation, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The document was signed by Ambassador Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the AIR Center, and Saeed Khatibzadeh, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran and head of the IPIS.

During the event, Deputy Foreign Minister Khatibzadeh emphasised the enduring strength of Iranian-Azerbaijani ties, while also acknowledging the challenges that occasionally arise.

“There are strong relations between Iran and Azerbaijan. However, problems do arise from time to time, which can be resolved through a policy of good neighbourliness,” Khatibzadeh stated.

Khatibzadeh also announced that Farid Shafiyev has been officially invited to visit Iran in the near future.

The signing of the memorandum marks a step forward in fostering regional dialogue and understanding, as both sides seek to promote stability and cooperation in the South Caucasus and beyond.
