Azerbaijani, Iranian FMs discuss military situation in Iran
On March 1, 2026, a phone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
According to Caliber.Az, citing the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the conversation focused on the situation resulting from military operations in Iran and the regional military escalation.
The Iranian Foreign Minister provided information on the current situation and the measures being taken.
Bayramov expressed serious concern over the tragic escalation in the region. He conveyed condolences regarding the death of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, and innocent civilians.
Both sides expressed hope for the earliest possible cessation of hostilities and resolution of the situation exclusively through political and diplomatic means, in accordance with international law norms and principles.
It was also emphasised that no state can use Azerbaijani territory against neighbouring and friendly Iran.
During the phone conversation, the ministers also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
