Azerbaijani presidential envoy visits Iran for high-level talks PHOTO / UPDATED
A senior Azerbaijani official has held a series of meetings in Tehran aimed at deepening cooperation and easing regional tensions between Azerbaijan and Iran.
On October 20, Khalaf Khalafov, Special Envoy of the President of Azerbaijan, met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs Mehdi Sanaei, and Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Discussions focused on the current state of bilateral relations and the follow-up to recent visits by Iran’s president to Baku. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to developing friendly and good-neighbourly ties, building on understandings reached between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian.
Officials emphasised the importance of maintaining dialogue to promote regional security and stability, while highlighting plans to expand cooperation in sectors such as energy, transport, and infrastructure. The two sides also reviewed joint projects in the Caspian Sea and other areas of mutual interest.
Khalafov and his Iranian counterparts further discussed Azerbaijan’s current chairmanship of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), underlining its role in fostering trust and collaboration across the continent.
