Azerbaijani MFA gives recommendations to NGOs
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has given recommendations to NGOs operating in the country.
The recommendations were voiced by the ministry’s official Yalchin Rafiyev at a conference on strengthening international cooperation among NGOs, organised jointly with the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organisations and ADA University, Report informs.
He noted that during the 44-day second Karabakh war, some UN rapporteurs made false accusations against Azerbaijan (the use of torture against Armenian servicemen, etc.).
“These rapporteurs do not have a biased attitude towards Azerbaijan. Their reports were compiled on the basis of information from Armenian NGOs and public activists who appealed to them on various issues. Our civil society must take some actions to prove its case on many issues. It is necessary to maintain constant contact with the UN institutions and their rapporteurs,” Rafiyev noted.
The head of the department emphasised that NGOs play a special role in international politics.
“The position of civil society plays a special role in Western countries and international organisations. Therefore, I think that specialisation in different spheres is important for NGOs,” he added.
