Azerbaijani, Moroccan top diplomats discuss bilateral agenda, sign cooperation documents UPDATE
On November 13, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, who acts as a co-chairman of the joint commission on bilateral cooperation between the government of Azerbaijan and the government of Morocco, within the framework of an official visit to Morocco, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation with Africa and Moroccans Abroad, co-chairman of the commission from the Moroccan side, Nasser Bourita.
Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, that the one-on-one meeting between the ministers was later continued with the participation of delegations from both sides.
Then the 2nd meeting of the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation was held with the participation of officials from the relevant government agencies of Azerbaijan and Morocco. An exchange of views took place on bilateral and multilateral cooperation relations between Azerbaijan and Morocco, as well as regional issues.
During the meeting, the visit of Azerbaijan's National Leader Heydar Aliyev to Morocco in 1994 was recalled. The importance and role of this and other high-level mutual visits were noted in terms of the development of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Morocco, and the importance of the existing mechanism of political consultations between the Foreign Ministries was emphasized. Azerbaijan and Morocco's support for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity was noted with satisfaction, and the importance of continuing ties between the parties within the framework of multilateral platforms such as the UN, OIC, and NAM was emphasized.
At the meeting, the possibilities of expanding cooperation with Morocco in the fields of economy, trade and investment were discussed, in connection with the importance of organizing commission meetings on a regular basis and holding business forums with the participation of businessmen from the two countries within the framework of these meetings was noted.
The importance of accelerating internal state procedures for the speedy entry into force of the relevant bilateral documents, which will serve as the legal basis for economic cooperation, was emphasized. The potential for cooperation in the field of infrastructure construction was discussed, and the general view was expressed that the exchange of experience in the field of international ports will make an additional contribution to the bilateral agenda.
The existing agricultural potential in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan was discussed, and views were exchanged on a possible Azerbaijani-Moroccan partnership in the field of creating and managing farms in these territories. It was emphasized that the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Morocco in the fields of tourism, culture, and education can bring the peoples of the two countries closer together and contribute to the deepening of interstate relations.
Minister Bayramov informed the Moroccan officials about the factors that set the ground for the local anti-terrorism measures carried out by the Azerbaijan Armed Forces in the Karabakh region, in particular about the threat posed by the formations of the Armenian armed forces, which, contrary to obligations, were not withdrawn from the territories of Azerbaijan, as well as the current regional the situation and plans of Azerbaijan to ensure peace and stability in the region. It was noted that Azerbaijan is promoting the normalisation of relations with Armenia, as well as the fact that Armenia’s slanderous campaign against Baku does not serve to establish peace. At the same time, the minister talked about the mine threat caused by Armenia.
Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
In conclusion, Azerbaijani-Moroccan bilateral documents were signed, including in the fields of energy, logistics, and ecology, as well as the protocol of the 2nd meeting of the commission.
