Azerbaijani official delivers speech about Armenia’s environmental terrorism at UN General Assembly
Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament Sahiba Gafarova has said that 20 per cent of the internationally recognised territory of Azerbaijan has been subjected to environmental terrorism by Armenia.
Gafarova made remarks at a high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly on the role of zero waste as a transformative solution in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to Report's US Bureau.
She expressed gratification with participation in the high-level meeting, convened on the initiative of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s wife Emine Erdogan.
“It is a great pleasure for me to deliver a speech at a high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly on such an important issue as all the ongoing challenges facing humanity. We share a common responsibility to make the world a better place for present and future generations within this initiative,” the speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament noted.
Gafarova noted that the Republic of Azerbaijan has demonstrated support for the resolution by sponsoring the Declaration on the Global Climate Commitment for Zero Waste Production around the world.
In her speech, the speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament drew attention to the environmental terrorism committed by Armenia in the Azerbaijani historical lands.
“Twenty per cent of the internationally recognised territory of Azerbaijan has been subjected to environmental terrorism by Armenia. It destroyed our forests and reserves, illegally used natural resources and polluted the transboundary rivers flowing from Armenia to Azerbaijan,” she added.
