Baku Initiative Group backs protesting Sikh community in India

10 August 2026 14:31

The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) has expressed solidarity with the Sikh community protesting in India, calling on the Indian government to ensure equal protection of Sikh religious sites and members of the community under the law and due process.

In a post on X, the agency said such selective enforcement and unequal treatment raises serious concerns in India, Caliber.Az reports.

“Sikh community leaders and members protested outside the Panjokhra Sahib Police Station in Ambala, calling on the Indian Government to take immediate and impartial action against anti-Khalistan activists,” the statement noted.

"The Baku Initiative Group stands in solidarity with the Sikh community and calls on the Indian Government to ensure equal protection before the law, accountability, due process, and the protection of Sikh religious spaces and community members. We urge the Indian authorities to ensure that justice is applied equally to all," the statement added.

On August 7, a confrontation took place in Ambala, Haryana, between Sikhs and activists opposing the movement for an independent Khalistan. Two police officers were also injured in the incident.

Police detained two young Sikhs following the confrontation, prompting members of the Sikh community to protest outside the police station and demand their release.
