Rubio: US remains fully committed to Armenia-Azerbaijan peace and TRIPP

The United States remains fully committed to working with Armenia and Azerbaijan as the two countries build on the peace agreement reached one year ago, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on August 8.

In a statement marking the first anniversary of the landmark Washington meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Rubio said the August 8, 2025 summit had “secured peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan” and launched the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP).

“One year ago today, President Trump secured peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan when he hosted President Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Prime Minister Pashinyan of Armenia together at the White House and witnessed their signing of a historic Joint Declaration,” Rubio said.

According to the secretary of state, the declaration “ended decades of conflict in the South Caucasus” and set in motion the development of TRIPP, a multimodal transit route designed to modernize rail, road, energy and digital infrastructure.

Rubio said significant progress had been made over the past 12 months, with the United States working “side-by-side” with Armenia and Azerbaijan to translate the commitments made in Washington into concrete projects.

“The TRIPP – a multimodal transit route that will modernize rails, road, energy and digital infrastructure – is on its way to becoming a reality,” he said.

He noted that engineering surveys for the railway in Armenia are already underway, while Azerbaijan is nearing completion of a highway and railroad that will connect with Armenia.

Rubio also announced the launch of the Trans-Caspian Enterprise Fund, saying it is now operational under a newly elected board of directors and has been capitalized with $201 million in US government funding.

The fund is intended to support private-sector investment along the Trans-Caspian Trade Route, also known as the Middle Corridor, linking the South Caucasus and Central Asia.

“Peace has opened the door to enhanced relationships between the United States, Armenia, and Azerbaijan that will add to the economic prosperity of all three countries,” Rubio said.

He described TRIPP as more than an infrastructure initiative, emphasizing its broader geopolitical and economic significance.

“TRIPP is more than an infrastructure project — it is a vital link in the Trans-Caspian Trade Route, a driver of commercial opportunities for the United States and others, and a model for how economic cooperation can cement peace following the resolution of long-standing disputes,” Rubio said.

The secretary of state said Washington would continue supporting Armenia and Azerbaijan as they seek to consolidate the gains made over the past year.

“The United States remains fully committed to working with Armenia and Azerbaijan as they build on this foundation,” Rubio said.

“We congratulate both nations on the courage and vision they have shown over the past year, and we look forward to continued progress toward a durable, lasting peace in the South Caucasus,” he added.
