Hikmet Hajiyev: "President Ilham Aliyev — won the war, but also won the peace!"

A senior Azerbaijani presidential aide has marked the first anniversary of the Washington Peace Summit, praising President Ilham Aliyev for what he described as success both in conflict and diplomacy.

Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President and head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, shared a video from the summit on the social media platform X to commemorate the occasion, Caliber.Az reports.

“President Ilham Aliyev — won the war, but also won the peace! One year since the Washington Peace Summit,” Hajiyev wrote.

The remarks refer to a key diplomatic milestone: one year has passed since the landmark meeting in Washington on August 8, 2025, between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The talks have been widely regarded as one of the most significant steps toward the normalisation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
