Azerbaijani official says Zangazur Corridor to boost regional trade capacity
Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev has said the opening of the Zangazur Corridor will increase the annual capacity of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) by 15 million tons.
Speaking at a special Cabinet meeting dedicated to President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Washington, Mustafayev described the corridor as “a strategic bridge connecting mainland Azerbaijan with Türkiye and Central Asia,” Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He added that it would also serve as “a new artery linking Southeast Asia and the Persian Gulf with Northern European countries.”
The deputy prime minister framed the Washington visit as a reflection of Baku’s rising profile.
“The outcome of the visit to Washington is the result of Azerbaijan's growing authority,” he said, adding: “This visit confirms that Azerbaijan is recognized in the world as a reliable strategic partner.”
He pointed to the signing of a joint declaration between Azerbaijan and Armenia as a landmark development.
“The signing of a joint declaration between Azerbaijan and Armenia is an event inscribed in the history of our country. This document is the result of strategic thinking and far-sighted policy of President Ilham Aliyev,” Mustafayev noted.
He emphasised the significance of new transport links agreed between the two countries.
“According to the signed document, the parties once again confirmed the importance of opening intraregional and international communications between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” he said.
