Azerbaijani official slams social media giants for neglecting ethical standards Calls for AI regulation
Large social network companies are largely disinterested in making substantial efforts to adhere to ethical standards, prevent misinformation, or address manipulation on their platforms, as well as in implementing effective regulatory mechanisms.
Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, said, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Hajiyev stated that “we are facing a new reality. The rapid development of artificial intelligence and its integration into information dissemination on social networks can lead to unregulated consequences, which we are already beginning to witness.”
He suggested that if effective regulatory mechanisms for social networks cannot be achieved, international collaborative efforts might be necessary to develop regulations for AI.
“Perhaps, it is time to consider the development of legislative, regulatory, or conventional frameworks concerning artificial intelligence,” Hajiyev added.
He noted that while private initiatives are addressing this issue, serious international discussions are lacking.
