Azerbaijani ombudsman, ruling party decry embassy attack in Iran

Azerbaijani Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) Sabina Aliyeva and the ruling New Azerbaijan Party have condemned the January 27 deadly attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran.

“We strongly condemn the Terror Attack at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Tehran, Iran and believe the respective state authorities will do their best to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Caliber.Az cites Aliyeva as saying on Twitter.

The central office of the New Azerbaijan Party also issued a statement in connection with the armed attack.

“The armed attack on the embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Islamic Republic of Iran, committed on January 27 at about 8:30 (GMT+4), caused great concern and indignation among the entire Azerbaijani public and members of the New Azerbaijan Party,” the party told APA.

“Azerbaijan rejects and condemns all forms of terrorism. Any attempt at provocation is doomed to failure, and will not yield any results! The New Azerbaijan Party condemns this treacherous act of terrorism, and expresses condolences to the family and relatives of deceased [the embassy's deceased chief security officer] Orkhan Asgarov, and wishes recovery to the wounded embassy staff. The party urges Iran to investigate the incident fully and give a legal assessment. The terrorist who committed this provocation and the people behind him must be punished and must apologise to the Azerbaijani people. We demand an end to the propaganda that has been carried out against Azerbaijan for a long time, and to provide accurate and correct information about the incident!” the party added.
