Azerbaijani ombudsperson appeals to international organisations to condemn France’s biased actions
Azerbaijani Human Rights Commissioner, Ombudsperson Sabina Aliyeva has called on international organisations to condemn the biased actions of the French authorities against the Azerbaijani journalist and conduct the necessary investigation.
The ombudsperson reminded that the Azerbaijani journalist, who visited France to participate in an event organised by the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Bonn, was detained at the Cologne Bonn airport on June 11, where she was informed that France had imposed a ban for her entry into the Schengen area, Report informs.
The ombudsperson noted that such actions against the journalist, which are an attempt to restrict free journalistic activity, grossly violate the norms and principles of international law, in particular, the right to freedom of speech and access to information.
“France’s action must be condemned by the corresponding international organisations and the issue must be thoroughly investigated,” Aliyeva emphasised.
The Azerbaijan Press Council said that the actions involving the prohibition of Aygun Hasanova, an employee of the Azerbaijan State News Agency (Azertag), from participating in a seminar in Bonn, Germany, and preventing her access to the Schengen zone are deeply regrettable. This incident, which occurred on orders of France, represents an attempt to violate legal norms and limit freedom of speech and expression.
