Azerbaijani ombudsperson, IPU Secretary General discuss human rights

Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva has met with Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong.

During the meeting, the Ombudsman highlighted her activity in the field of ensuring and protection of human rights and freedoms, as well as within the international cooperation, noting that cooperation agreements have already been signed with the Ombudsmen and National Human Rights Institutions of several foreign countries, and that the interaction continues to develop, the Office told Report.

She also noted that prior to the snap presidential election, the Ombudsman's Office and the Central Election Commission held joint legal-awareness raising events in Baku and regions on the subject of ensuring the electoral rights of citizens.

The two also exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual interest.
