Azerbaijani Ombudsperson issues statement on mass grave discovered in Shusha

03 June 2023 17:49

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, has issued a statement regarding the mass grave discovered in Shusha.

According to Report, the statement reads:

"Another mass grave, indicating the killing and mass burial of people during the Armenian occupation in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, was discovered today in the city of Shusha. According to preliminary data, the remains of at least four people have been found in this grave.

The mass grave was found on the territory of Shusha prison. This once again confirms the fact that the Azerbaijanis held in Shusha prison were subjected to horrific torture and inhumane treatment there.

We regret to state that these are not the only facts testifying to the crimes committed by Armenia in violation of international humanitarian law. Thus, earlier appeals were sent to the world community and a separate report was prepared on the results of research on the site of mass graves discovered in the village of Edilli of Khojavand region.

The regular discovery of mass graves in the liberated territories once again proves the policy of genocide and ethnic cleansing carried out by Armenia against Azerbaijanis.

Once again I call on the world community to take necessary measures against Armenia in connection with such cases and support in obtaining information about the fate of our missing compatriots."
