Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev said relations between Azerbaijan and Iran are “friendly and brotherly,” highlighting deep historical, cultural and religious ties during a meeting with Iran's ambassador to Baku Mojtaba Demirchilu on April 24.
According to Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General’s Office, Aliyev stressed that longstanding connections between the two nations continue to underpin cooperation across multiple sectors, including the legal sphere. He added that the close relationship between Ilham Aliyev and Iran’s leadership contributes to further strengthening bilateral ties, Caliber.Az reports per the office.

During the meeting, Aliyev also extended condolences over the death of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and expressed sympathy for civilian casualties resulting from recent war, voicing hope that peace would soon be established in the region.

He recalled his 2022 working visit to Iran, noting that meetings with Iranian law enforcement officials at the time had been productive and helped advance institutional cooperation.

Demirchilu thanked Azerbaijan for its support, highlighting President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to the Iranian Embassy to offer condolences and describing it as a significant gesture. He also said Azerbaijan was the first country to provide humanitarian assistance to Iran and noted Baku’s role in facilitating the transit of aid from other countries as a sign of solidarity.
The ambassador emphasised the importance of further strengthening cooperation between the two countries’ law enforcement agencies.
The sides discussed joint efforts to combat crime, particularly drug trafficking, as well as legal assistance in criminal cases, extradition procedures and the transfer of prisoners. They also exchanged views on organising reciprocal visits to further develop bilateral relations.
