Azerbaijani security chief: Multiple geopolitical challenges emerge worldwide PHOTO

11 October 2023 17:17

The 53rd meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Bodies and Special Services of the CIS member states was held in Baku on October 11.

Head of the Azerbaijani State Security Service Col-Gen Ali Nagiyev, and Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Col-Gen Orkhan Sultanov participated in the event from the Azerbaijani side, the State Security Service told Caliber.Az.

Nagiyev noted that in the short time since the last Council meeting in Minsk, several radical changes have taken place in the world in terms of security and geopolitics. Thus, new hotbeds of conflict have erupted in some countries, cases of international terrorism, transnational organised crime, religious extremism and drug trafficking have increased.

He expressed confidence that this meeting will help the CIS countries to improve the methods of joint struggle against the above-mentioned negative phenomena, the mechanism of coordinated work, create additional opportunities for outlining the contours of future activities, and the existing bilateral and multilateral cooperation will rise to a new level.

Nagiyev informed the participants about the anti-terrorist measures taken against the illegal Armenian armed formations in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, which have been one of the main threats to security and stability.

He said that these criminal formations, which refused to leave Azerbaijani territories contrary to the Trilateral Statement (by leaders of Azerbaijan, Russian and Armenia) of 10 November 2020, have recently committed such provocations as mining of settlements and communications, shelling of positions of the Azerbaijani army, terrorist acts resulting in the death of civilians and police officers.

The meeting continued with speeches by other participants, discussion of security issues, joint struggle against destructive activities aimed at destabilisation in the CIS space.

The event concluded with the signing of the final documents.
