Azerbaijani, Serbian defence officials meet in Baku to discuss military cooperation

03 June 2025 17:22

Azerbaijani and Serbian military representatives convened in Baku as part of the 2025 bilateral military cooperation plan agreed between the two countries’ defence ministries.

The meeting, held at the International Military Cooperation Department of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence, focused on evaluating the current status of joint military activities, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Defence Ministry.

Delegates reviewed ongoing collaborative efforts, explored future cooperation prospects, and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.

As a reminder, Azerbaijan and Serbia have significantly strengthened their defence cooperation in recent years, culminating in the signing of a bilateral military cooperation plan for 2025. This agreement, formalised during a visit by Azerbaijan's defence delegation to Serbia in December 2024, reflects both nations' commitment to enhancing military collaboration across various domains.

The cooperation encompasses joint initiatives in military medicine, civil-military relations, and combat training. Notably, in August 2024, Azerbaijani and Serbian military medical experts convened in Baku to discuss advancements in military healthcare systems. Additionally, in May 2024, civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) experts from both countries held meetings to share experiences and strategies. Further, in June 2024, military experts discussed combat training methodologies and lessons learned, aiming to improve the operational readiness of their respective land forces.

High-level engagements have also marked this partnership. In June 2024, Serbian Defence Minister Bratislav Gašić visited Baku, where he was invited to attend the 5th Azerbaijan International Defence Exhibition (ADEX).

During ADEX in September 2024, Azerbaijani Defence Minister Zakir Hasanov met with Serbian Assistant Minister of Defence Nenad Miloradović to discuss military-technical cooperation, including the inspection of Serbian defence products showcased by Yugoimport SDPR.
