Azerbaijani, Somalian FMs meet in Baku
A meeting between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ahmed Moallim Fiqi is being held in Baku.
“Tête-à-tête meeting between Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia Ahmed Moallim Fiqi commenced at the Azerbaijani foreign ministry within the latter's official visit to Azerbaijan,” Caliber.Az reports citing the ministry's message on X.
Azerbaijan and Somalia have established diplomatic relations, but their interactions have been relatively limited compared to Azerbaijan's relations with other countries. The countries established formal diplomatic relations in the early 1990s.
Both countries have engaged in diplomatic exchanges, though they do not have embassies in each other's capitals. Their diplomatic relations are often conducted through their respective embassies in other countries. Azerbaijan and Somalia have supported each other in various international forums, including the United Nations. They often back each other on issues related to territorial integrity and sovereignty.
There have been occasional high-level visits between officials of the two countries, which help strengthen political ties and discuss mutual interests. Trade between Azerbaijan and Somalia is minimal. There are opportunities for growth, particularly in sectors like agriculture, energy, and construction. There is potential for Azerbaijani investment in Somalia, especially in the reconstruction and development of infrastructure.
