01 October 2025 12:45

Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova has travelled to South Africa on a working visit to attend the 11th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit.

Gafarova and the Azerbaijani delegation were welcomed on arrival at Cape Town International Airport by Cedric Thomas Frolick, Chair of the Public Accounts Committee of South Africa’s Parliament, Azerbaijan’s Chargé d’Affaires in the country, Huseyn Rahimli, and other officials, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

During her visit, Gafarova will participate in the summit’s sessions and is expected to hold bilateral meetings with the heads of other parliamentary delegations attending the gathering.

The 11th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20) will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, from October 1 to 3, 2025, hosted by the Parliament of South Africa in partnership with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The gathering will be preceded by the 2nd P20 Meeting of Women Parliamentarians and the P20 Meeting of Young Parliamentarians, which took place on September 29 and 30.

This year’s summit will focus on the theme “Harnessing parliamentary diplomacy for realisation of global solidarity, equality and sustainability”.

Delegates will participate in four high-level sessions covering key global priorities: strengthening disaster resilience and responses; ensuring debt sustainability for low-income countries; mobilising finance for a just energy transition; and harnessing critical minerals for inclusive growth and sustainable development.
