Azerbaijani speaker to attend funeral of Queen Elizabeth II

Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament Sahiba Gafarova will attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on September 19.

The announcement came from the British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Fergus Auld Obe on Twitter, according to Caliber.Az.

“I am proud that the chairperson of the Milli Majlis [Parliament], Sahiba Gafarova, will also take part in today's state funeral,” the ambassador said.

It was earlier reported that Gafarova has already arrived in London.

In the Palace of Westminster, the coffin with the Queen will stay until 10:35 am (1:35 pm Baku time), after which the soldiers of the first Battalion of the Grenadier Guards will transfer it to a gun carriage, fot the last journey.

Later on September 19, a memorial service will be held at Westminster Abbey, after which the body of the monarch will be taken to Windsor Castle near London, where it will be buried at 7:30 pm local time (10:30 pm Baku time).
