Azerbaijani State Security Service arrests former Balakan District executive over corruption VIDEO / PHOTO

The State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan has exposed criminal activities by the former head of the Balakan District Executive Authority, Islam Vahid oglu Rzayev.

During comprehensive investigative and operational measures, authorities found that Rzayev, while serving as the district executive, misappropriated significant amounts of property entrusted to him and committed multiple acts of corruption, Caliber.Az reports.

Investigators established that Rzayev abused his official position by embezzling state budget funds allocated for the unemployed, low-income residents, and local infrastructure and repair projects. He allegedly failed to use the funds for their intended purposes and accepted bribes from officials and business figures.

Rzayev was arrested in connection with a criminal case opened by the SSS Main Investigation Department and faces charges under Articles 179.3.2 (embezzlement on a particularly large scale) and 311.3.2 (repeated bribery) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. A court has placed him in custody.

Investigations and operational measures in the case are ongoing.
