15 April 2025 12:47

On April 14, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Interim Government, Assad Hassan Al-Shaibani, noted in a phone call the necessity of developing the Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Syria cooperation format.

The phone conversation focused on Azerbaijani-Syrian relations and regional security, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.

The two sides noted the broad prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Syria following the collapse of the Assad regime.

Gratitude was expressed for the support in restoring the operation of the Azerbaijani embassy in Syria after a long hiatus.

The Azerbaijani side also emphasized its commitment to participating in Syria’s reconstruction process and highlighted the importance of the humanitarian aid provided by official Baku.

In conclusion, the sides exchanged views on bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has discussed with his Syrian counterpart Assad al-Shaibani the prospects of expanding cooperation.

In a phone call, the parties explored ways to develop bilateral relations and enhance joint coordination on issues of common interest, Caliber.Az reports, citing Syrian media.

During the call, al-Shaibani and his Azerbaijani counterpart emphasized the importance of supporting the Syrian government in its efforts to achieve stability in the energy sector and reconstruction, while also expanding cooperation in political and economic fields.

Moreover, the senior diplomats also underscored the necessity of activating communication channels between official institutions and encouraging visits at various levels.

Let's note that Azerbaijan and Syria have recently revitalized their bilateral relations, marking a significant shift after years of limited engagement. This renewed cooperation encompasses diplomatic, consular, and multilateral dimensions.

In early 2025, Azerbaijan reopened its embassy in Damascus after a 13-year hiatus, signaling a commitment to deepening ties with Syria's transitional government. This move is viewed as a strategic effort to foster partnerships across political, economic, and cultural sectors.

On April 11, 2025, during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Syrian Interim President Ahmad Al-Sharaa discussed the development of a trilateral cooperation format involving Azerbaijan, Syria, and Türkiye.
