Azerbaijani top official calls on int'l media to safeguard future generations from war

06 December 2025 16:56

Azerbaijan is calling for stronger international support to secure economic benefits from peace in the South Caucasus, including joint development of the Zangezur Corridor and broader regional connectivity, presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev said on December 6.

Speaking at an international forum in Doha, Hajiyev highlighted his recent exchange with American television host Tucker Carlson, noting that Carlson’s latest coverage of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations “was not sufficiently positive to promote peace," Caliber.Az reports per local media.

He added that he had suggested a future discussion involving representatives from both Armenia and Azerbaijan to focus on the “real peace agenda.”

“This is just one example. International media and the global community should support us. We are moving towards the future and want to protect future generations from the wounds of war,” Hajiyev said.

He stressed that, amid rising global conflict hotspots, progress towards peace in the South Caucasus is particularly welcome. “Speaking about peace is far easier than discussing conflict. Previously, Armenia and Azerbaijan constantly argued over disagreements. Today, we are talking about peace,” he said.

Acknowledging the pivotal role of the United States in the process, Hajiyev emphasised the importance of bilateral engagement between Baku and Yerevan. “Both Azerbaijan and Armenia have recognised that peace must come first. We must build this peace, reach an agreement, and then present it to our international partners,” he said.

Hajiyev also praised the bilateral nature of the peace negotiations, noting that impartial US mediation had helped both sides reach key agreements. “We continue to advance peacebuilding on a bilateral basis, including cooperation through civil society institutions. This approach proves effective and results-oriented,” he added.
