Azerbaijani top official: European parliament resolution —diplomatic disgrace
Azerbaijani Presidential Aide Hikmet Hajiyev has sharply criticised a recent resolution by the European Parliament, calling it a “diplomatic disgrace” and accusing the body of undermining regional peace efforts.
Speaking to journalists in Khankandi, Hikmet Hajiyev said it was regrettable that such a policy was being pursued by the European Parliament, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“The decisions adopted by the European Parliament have no significance for the Republic of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has no obligations to this institution. The European Parliament also has no mandate to express its position on such issues,” he stated.
Hajiyev argued that the resolution is an attempt to obstruct the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“At a time when economic steps are being taken toward the establishment of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and just one day after the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan visited Armenia, the passage of such a resolution is nothing short of a diplomatic disgrace,” he said.
He further described the move as sabotage, provocation, and an attempt to drag the region back into war.
