Azerbaijani tricolor raised in Canada’s Hamilton PHOTO
In honor of Azerbaijan's Independence Day on May 28, the national flag of Azerbaijan was raised in the Canadian city of Hamilton.
Organized by the Azerbaijani community of Hamilton at the City Hall center, the flag-raising event was accompanied by the stirring sounds of Azerbaijan's national anthem. Following the flag-raising ceremony, members of the Azerbaijani community gathered for a historic meeting in Hamilton.
In her address, Jamila Rustamova-Shepherd, head of the Azerbaijani community of Hamilton, noted the significance of May 28 as Independence Day, The State Committee for Work with Diaspora told AZERTAC.
Selhat Abbasova, Head of the Department of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora, provided insights into the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first secular democratic state in the Muslim East, and shared information about the Committee's projects. She extended her best wishes to the newly formed Hamilton Azerbaijani Community.
Lalin Hasanova, executive director of the Azerbaijan House in Canada and head of the Vatan Azerbaijan Art and Culture Center, highlighted the "City Days" project and invited the local Azerbaijani community to participate in Hamilton Day events.
Valida Guliyeva, founder of Hamilton Azerbaijani Language School, along with school teacher Elmira Doghusheva and community member Shabnam Sevinj, shared details about their activities and presented various ideas and proposals during the gathering.
