Azercosmos, SpaceX sign cooperation agreement

The Space Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Azercosmos OJSC) and the US SpaceX Corporation have signed a cooperation agreement.

The document was signed by Chairman of the Board of Azercosmos OJSC Samaddin Asadov and President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX Gwynne Shotwell on May 9, Caliber.Az reports.

Asadov said that within the framework of this agreement, internet services based on Starlink will be provided in Azerbaijan.

"SpaceX will provide internet services in Azerbaijan through our satellites. Satellite internet will improve the country's performance, as well as contribute to new technologies," he said.

Asadov also stressed that this cooperation will help accelerate the coverage of the entire territory of Azerbaijan with internet services.

Meanwhile, SpaceX’s President Gwynne Shotwell said that Azercosmos will be supporting Starlink on the enterprise side and maritime.

"To bring Starlink to the region, Azerсosmos will be supporting Starlink on the enterprise side and maritime, and we also look forward to Starlink supporting the people of Azerbaijan in general, a very well-connected people with broadband," Shotwell told journalists in Baku, according to Report.

According to her, Starlink brings connectivity to those places that are very difficult to get to, very difficult and very expensive.

"So now anyone in the country could have access to very high-speed internet, and we really look forward to bringing it to the people of Azerbaijan," Shotwell said.

The Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX) is an American spacecraft manufacturer, launcher, and satellite communications corporation headquartered in Hawthorne, California. It was founded in 2002 by Elon Musk with the stated goal of reducing space transportation costs to enable the colonisation of Mars.
